How great is the cost savings by using Thermdrill procedures in relation to traditional connection techniques?
Like the following tables offer the Thermdrill procedure shows clear saving possibilities in various ranges. The amount depends on individual respective applications. Gladly we can provide a Thermdrill calculation of production costs for you.
How do I find the correct Thermdrill for my application?
With the help of the drill selection table that is completely simple! On the basis of the desired thread size left horizontally to the column with the favored type of tool "form" (with collar) or "cut" (without collar). Here you will find maximum material thicknesses for "long" or for version "short". Then select the drill version out for which range your material thickness lies.
Example: given material thickness: 2.0 mm, threads M8 Result:
drilled hole with collar selection: Thermdrill M8 (7,3) form/short
Can I work also thinner material thicknesses with the Thermdrill version "long" than indicated?
In principle. But please always check afterwards to see if your threads have the proper hold amount that you are requiring.
For which material qualities can I use Thermdrill?
The Thermdrill procedure can be used for a wide range of thin designed special metal material. Feel free to contact our service team for more details for material types.
Do I need different Thermdrills for different material qualities?
In principle no. However adjustments of the hole diameter may be required depending upon material quality and the requirements of the thread connection. Should the result not be to your requirements, please check the drill selection table for the proper parameters for your machine settings and material.
Which performance parameters are required for my drill press machine?
In principle the Thermdrill tools can be used on older models as well as newer models of drilling machines. The power demand will be of course some what higher than when using normal spiral drills. This depends strongly on respective material thickness, number of revolutions, characteristic diagram of the drill machine, performance and and the age of the machine. In the Download Section appropriate reference values are indicated, which can deviate however depending upon condition of the machine. Mainly machine performance should be at least so limited that during the drilling process the minimum number of revolutions (depending upon thread size) is not lower than stated in the table.
Up to which maximum material thickness can I use the Thermdrill procedure ?
Maximum material thickness depends on the respective thread size. The recommended limit values are clearly represented after type of drill ("form" and "cut") and the version ("long" and "short") in the drill selection table.
How much load can the Thermdrill thread connections maintain?
Bolt connections, which were manufactured by the means of using thread formers hold in principle high static and dynamic loads. In the Download Section appropriate reference values of the maximum stress are shown. These can vary however depending upon application and are if necessary individually to be determined.
Must I apply lubricant all the time to the Thermdrills when in use.
We always suggest to apply at least every 1-3 holes a small amount of lubricant paste to the Thermdrills. Apply from the point to the collar of the shaft. The amount is not the major issue but the frequency of application is. The material thickness is important and type of material should be taken into consideration. The lubricant will help as a coating for the drill during the processs and will extend the drill life. Other help is the preventing of vibrations and helping perform a good rotation. It will also help in the prevention of damage to the collar and outer surfaces.
